HANDS, 2015

from Maria Chavez

Originally a sculpture for BRIC Brooklyn's "Handmade Abstract" exhibition in 2015, HANDS comprises of images of palms from professional creatives all over the world. Maria asked each participant to take images of their palms with any background of their choosing and placed images of the outside of her own hands on the front and back cover of the book. When the book is closed, Maria's hands holds all the palms in place in a prayer position. When the book is opened all the palms face the viewers gaze in a show of offering.

"HANDS" features photos of palms from artists worldwide, and each book is hand bound by Maria with Peruvian Alpaca yarn in a Japanese book binding style.

Featuring the palms of Pauline Oliveros, Elliot Sharp and more.

There are only 3 left of 10 from 2015 and each book is hand bound in a Japanese book binding style by Maria using Peruvian Alpaca yarn.
