Small Broken Shard #2, white Carrara marble
Recently sculpted in Carrara, Italy, the area that provides all of the marble for the Vatican and for companies around the world since Roman times, Broken Shard #1 is a remnant of a larger white marble sculpture hand carved by sound artist Maria Chavez. The larger piece was carved to represent a vinyl record shard that can be found in Maria's Abstract Turntablism practice. Once the larger piece was sculpted Maria had 2 small pieces of the sculpture broken off to serve as a representation of the small shards that are part of Maria's sonic vocabulary. Each piece was hand polished by Maria measures 3" x 4"x 1.5" (Large shard sculpture is not available for purchase)

Born in Lima, Peru and based in NYC, Maria Chávez is best known as an abstract turntablist, sound artist and DJ. Her latest
