Brooklyn-based artist Maria Chavez (born in Peru, 1980) examines microscopic, physical images of vinyl records and needles/ styli through their striking similarities to the topography of mountainous and canyon regions throughout the world.
These paintings, originally shown as a solo "silent sound" exhibition at the Modlin Art Center with The Harnett Museum of Art on the University of Richmond campus in Virginia in 2018, were watercolor or sumi- ink based with 3 paintings now part of the Harnett Museum of Art's permanent collection. Each print is available in 11” x 17” for small posters and are printed with archival ink on card stock paper.

Born in Lima, Peru and based in NYC, Maria Chávez is best known as an abstract turntablist, sound artist and DJ. Her latest
album, “Maria Chavez PLAYS Stefan Goldmann’s Ghost hemiola” was nominated for a Preis der deutschen schallplattenkritik in 1/2020.
Currently, Maria is on the cover of the textbook about the history of Experimental and Electronic music by Routledge Publishing.
